Part of North South Portland, collaboration with Sarah Baugh and Justin Flood. Installed at Field Work, December 2010-January 2011.

Oral Histories of North South Portland was a rotating marquee installed in the east-facing windows on SW 11th Avenue in Portland. Facing an active streetcar line, the marquee displayed excerpts of oral histories gathered by local historian Polina Olsen from former residents of South Portland.

We aimed to expose a bit of the neighborhood's history to those who pass through it daily.

Content rotated every few days. The marquee was made of salvaged building materials to reference the quick destruction of the neighborhood in the 1960's due to urban renewal. The marquee format was chosen to reference the once- numerous theaters on SW Broadway. Letters were hand-painted because, well, it was fun.
